Ko Anna Hayward tōku ingoa.
Born and raised in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, I am a proud tangata tiriti, committed to working in true partnership for a better Aotearoa New Zealand. For more than 20 years, I have worked alongside government, iwi, and community organisations to co-create practical, lasting solutions in health, education, social services, and community development.
I hold a Master of Advanced Leadership Practice (Distinction) from Massey University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Education. 2026 will see me embark on the journey towards achieving my PhD.
My core skills and expertise include:
-
Facilitating courageous and culturally respectful conversations
-
Embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in governance and strategy
-
Leading complex change in uncertain environments
-
Long-term and future-focused strategic planning
-
Championing Indigenous leadership approaches
-

-
Coaching and capability building across teams
-
Navigating the machinery of government to progress policy and funding outcomes
-
Skilled negotiation and influence in complex contexts
-
Evidence-based programme design and outcome measurement
-
Disaster recovery and community resilience leadership
I bring expertise in strategic planning, governance, co-design, policy development, and complex project delivery, with proven skills in conflict resolution, change management, and building cross-sector partnerships.
I’m recognised for my ability to align diverse stakeholders, navigate political and organisational complexity, and turn vision into measurable, lasting results.
I’m at my best when bringing people together, building strong partnerships, and turning good ideas into actions that make a tangible difference. My approach blends big-picture thinking with a practical mindset, always aiming for changes that endure, even in resource-constrained settings.
I believe leadership is about building systems that empower others – I’m more of a clock builder than a time teller. Whether it’s designing community programmes, shaping strategic frameworks, or strengthening long-term outcomes, my focus is on creating opportunities that last for generations.
When I’m not driving systems change, you’ll find me connecting with people, at the beach with my two dogs, or quietly scheming the next big idea to help communities thrive.
