Two Worlds - One Horizon
In March 2026, Jodi Porter and I were invited to share some of our Toi Rāwhiti journey as part of the Te Tiriti Based Futures + Anti- racism online gathering. The online gathering brought together people from across Aotearoa to share what it looks like to move beyond talking about Te Tiriti and into the much messier space of putting it into practice.
Our contribution, Two Worlds - One Horizon, explored our experience of working together as Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti within the Iwi led project of Toi Rāwhiti.
Rather than presenting a model for partnership, we wanted to share something of what the practice actually looks and feels like for us. The different perspectives we bring, the things we've had to learn and unlearn, and the relationship that make it possible to work towards a shared horizon while recognising that we don't stand in the same place.
The presentation was not intended as a blueprint for how Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti should work together. It's simply one story from our experience so far. Please check out the other presentations from the day - they are well worth the watch
